Frites Atelier wants to conquer Europe through franchising

Frites Atelier, the fast food concept from Michelin-starred chef Sergio Herman, wants to be present in all European capitals by 2030. In several countries, the company is in talks with potential franchise partners.

Today, Frites Atelier has successful branches in Antwerp, Brussels, Ghent and Roosendaal, but its ambition goes much further: by 2030, the brand wants to expand not only to all European capitals, but also to the Emirates and Asia. The company has already signed an agreement with a partner in the United Kingdom and advanced discussions are underway with potential partners in Turkey and the Emirates.

Laurens Hompes, co-founder of the clothing brand Scotch & Soda, which he sold to an American investment fund in 2011, is the driving force behind the brand’s international expansion plans. “His entrepreneurial spirit and experience in retail and international trade are essential to Frites Atelier’s global expansion,” the press release states.

Frites Atelier’s international ambitions are not entirely new: last year, the company already had a partner in Turkey. The expansion in the Benelux has been uneven in recent years: the branches in Utrecht and Arnhem closed their doors, while the Maastricht project never came to fruition.
