Increase in foreign companies active in the Romagna – Forlì-Cesena and Rimini area at the end of June 2024, higher than the regional and national positive variation, according to the Infocamere-Movimprese data, processed by the Economic and Social Observatory of the Chamber of Commerce of Romagna. Foreign companies are increasing in all the main sectors: construction, trade, accommodation and catering, manufacturing, transport, services to businesses and people. In a context in which individual businesses clearly prevail, there is a strong growth in joint-stock companies.
Foreign companies: provincial focus Forlì-Cesena
As of June 30, 2024, in the province of Forlì-Cesena there were 4,096 active foreign companies, which constitute 11.5% of the total active companies (14.1% in Emilia-Romagna and 11.7% in Italy). In comparison with June 30, 2023, there was an increase in foreign companies of 6.3%, significantly higher than the positive regional (+1.3%) and national (+1.6%) variation.
The main economic sectors are construction (38.6% of foreign companies), trade (22.1%), manufacturing (10.5%), accommodation and catering (8.2%), other service activities (especially personal services) (6.2%), transport (4.1%) and the rental, travel agencies and business services sector (3.2%). Compared to 06/30/2023, there was an increase in each of these: +8.4% in construction, +1.1% in trade, +5.4% in manufacturing, +8.8% in accommodation and catering, +7.2% in other service activities, +9.7% in transport and +12.1% in the rental, travel agencies and business services sector.
The sectors with the highest percentage incidence of foreign companies on the total number of active companies are, respectively, construction (28.2%), transport (14.7%), other service activities (14.4%), manufacturing industry (13.1%), accommodation and catering (12.5%), trade (12.3%) and rental, travel agencies and business services (12.3%).
With regard to the legal nature of foreign companies, sole proprietorships clearly prevail (80.1% of the total), followed, at a certain distance, by joint-stock companies (13.3%) and partnerships (6.3%). In terms of annual variation, joint-stock companies (+11.7%) are growing significantly, followed by sole proprietorships (+5.9%) and partnerships (+1.2%).
In a territorial analysis context, it is then highlighted that more than half of the provincial foreign companies (55.2%) are located in the municipalities of Forlì (35.2%) and Cesena (20.0%), i.e. in the “Large urban centers”; there is also a good presence in the municipalities of Cesenatico (8.4%), Forlimpopoli (2.6%) and Bertinoro (2.1%), i.e. in the so-called “Belt Municipalities” (total 13.1%), and of Savignano sul Rubicone (8.3%), Gatteo (4.2%), San Mauro Pascoli (4.0%), Gambettola (3.0%) and Longiano (1.4%) (“Lower Rubicone area”, total 20.9%). To these should be added the municipalities of Meldola (2.1%) (Bidente Valley), Castrocaro Terme and Terra del Sole (1.5%) (Montone Valley) and Mercato Saraceno (1.0%) (Savio Valley).
In summary, 53.4% of active foreign companies are located in the Cesena area and 46.6% in the Forlì area. The municipalities with the highest percentage incidence of foreign companies on the total active companies are, in order, Savignano sul Rubicone (21.3%), Gatteo (19.3%), San Mauro Pascoli (15.3%), Forlì (14.1%), Gambettola (13.7%), Cesenatico (11.2%), Forlimpopoli (10.9%), Castrocaro Terme e Terra del Sole (10.6%) and Meldola (10.5%).
Finally, the main countries of origin of foreign entrepreneurs, referring to individual companies (the only ones for which it is possible to make an analysis by nationality) are, in order, Albania (719 companies), Romania (396), China (382), Morocco (306) and Tunisia (158); in terms of incidence, the aforementioned countries reach 59.8% of the foreign total.
