In the province there are almost 5 thousand active foreign companies, the increase is higher than the national average

As of June 30, 2024, there were 4,961 active foreign companies in the province of Rimini, which constitute 14.3% of the total active companies (14.1% in Emilia-Romagna and 11.7% in Italy). In comparison with June 30, 2023, there was an increase in foreign companies of 4.8%, higher than the positive regional (+1.3%) and national (+1.6%) variation. This is what emerges from the data processed by the Economic and Social Observatory of the Chamber of Commerce of Romagna.

The main economic sectors are construction (33.3% of foreign companies), trade (29.7%), accommodation and catering (11.0%), other service activities (especially personal services) (5.0%), manufacturing industry (5.0%), the rental sector, travel agencies and business services (4.1%) and transport (3.4%). Compared to 06/30/2023, there is an increase in each of these: +6.5% in construction, +0.3% in trade, +10.1% in accommodation and catering, +8.3% in other service activities, +5.6% in manufacturing, +4.7% in the rental, travel agencies and business services sector and +9.1% in transport.

The sectors with the highest percentage incidence of foreign companies on the total number of active companies are, respectively, construction (32.0%), transport (19.0%), trade (17.7%), other service activities (16.5%), rental, travel agencies and business services (16.1%), accommodation and catering (11.5%) and manufacturing industry (10.2%).

Regarding the legal nature of foreign companies, sole proprietorships clearly prevail (74.7% of the total), followed, at a certain distance, by joint-stock companies (16.9%) and partnerships (7.9%). In terms of annual variation, joint-stock companies (+8.7%) are growing significantly, followed by individual businesses (+4.4%) and partnerships (+2.6%).

In a context of territorial analysis, it is then highlighted that more than half of the provincial foreign companies are located in the municipality of Rimini (54.2%), classified as a “Large urban center”; there is also a good presence in the municipalities of Riccione (9.7%), Bellaria-Igea Marina (7.3%), Santarcangelo di Romagna (3.8%) and Coriano (1.7%), i.e. in the so-called “Belt Municipalities” (total 22.5%), and Cattolica (5.2%), Misano Adriatico (3.1%) and San Giovanni in Marignano (1.8%) (“Basso Conca area”, total 10.1%). To these should be added the municipalities of Morciano di Romagna (2.0%), San Clemente (1.6%) and Montescudo-Monte Colombo (1.4%) (Valconca), Verucchio (2.3%) and Novafeltria (1.1%) (Valmarecchia).

The municipalities with the highest percentage incidence of foreign companies on the total number of active companies are, in order, Sassofeltrio (20.4%), Rimini (17.7%), Gemmano (16.4%), Bellaria-Igea Marina (15.9%), San Clemente (15.9%), Verucchio (15.4%), Montescudo-Monte Colombo (15.2%), Morciano di Romagna (14.1%), Saludecio (14.0%), San Leo (12.7%) and Talamello (12.2%).

Finally, the main countries of origin of foreign entrepreneurs, referring to individual businesses (the only ones for which it is possible to make an analysis by nationality) are, in order, Albania (811 businesses), Romania (439), Bangladesh (403), China (287) and Morocco (173); in terms of incidence, the aforementioned countries reach 57.0% of the foreign total.
