Libya’s Security Summit In Benghazi

The meeting of the Security Working Group (SWG), one of the sequels of the Berlin process that brings together the 5+5 Military Committee (made up of five senior officers from Eastern and as many from the West), foreign ambassadors, envoys of international and regional organizations in charge of following the Libyan file.

The meeting aims to discuss the unification of military institutions and the removal of foreign forces, foreign fighters and mercenaries from Libyan territory. “It is a great success to have managed to organize the meeting in Benghazi, after the meetings in Tunis and Tripoli. It is a good sign of trust”, Libyan sources tell “Agenzia Nova”. Many ambassadors of countries accredited in Libya were present, including representatives of Algeria, Egypt, the Netherlands, Switzerland, the United Arab Emirates and the European Union. Representing Italy was the Italian ambassador in Libya, Gianluca Alberini, as co-president together with the United Kingdom, Turkey, France and the African Union.

Obviously, the UN envoy to Libya, Abdoulaye Bathily, was present, while representatives of the Arab League, Russia and the United States, including the special envoy and US ambassador to Libya, Richard Norland, connected via video.
