Saudi Trade Minister Dr. Majid al-Qasabi has held several meetings with British ministers and heads of major UK businesses in a bid to strengthen the trade and economic partnership between the two countries, Saudi Arabia reported on Saturday. Saudi Press Agency.
During his visit, Mr. Al-Qasabi met with the Minister of State for Energy Security and Carbon Neutrality, Grant Shapps, the Minister of Trade and Business, Kimi Badinosh, the Minister of Investment, Dominic Johnson, Minister of State for Middle Eastern and North African Affairs Lord Tariq Ahmed and Minister of State for the Department of Education Nick Gibb.
Saudi Arabia’s Ambassador to the UK, Prince Khalid bin Bandar, and Deputy Trade Minister and CEO of the National Competitiveness Center, Dr Iman bint Habbas al-Mutairi, participated in the meetings.
Mr. Al-Qasabi also held meetings with the Under-Secretary of the Department of Science, Innovation and Technology, Viscount Camrose, the British Prime Minister’s adviser for business and investment, Frank Petitgas, the Prime Minister’s Special Representative for Education Sir Steve Smith and the CEO of the British Accreditation Authority Matt Gantley.
The meetings discussed the strategies and programs of the Kingdom’s Vision 2030 initiative to expand trade and investment opportunities between the two countries, and encourage British businesses to expand their businesses in Saudi Arabia.
Leaders also discussed ways to encourage and fund emerging businesses to steer them towards promising areas of research and innovation and reviewed UK expertise in entrepreneurship development.
Mr Al-Qasabi also held meetings with leaders of Britain’s business sector, including Rolls-Royce CEO Tufan Erginbilgic, and participated in a dialogue with members of Asian House, a think tank concerned with promote trade between Asia, the Middle East and Europe.
The Saudi delegation planned a visit to Dulwich College where they learned about British practices and expertise in education.
The Minister’s visit to the UK coincided with the third meeting of the Economic and Social Committee of the Saudi-British Strategic Partnership Council, which was held in London.
The forum, which was made up of 45 officials from 22 government, non-profit and private agencies, was organized by the National Center for Competitiveness, the Saudi-British Business Council and the Federation of Saudi Chambers.
The Central Bank of Saudi Arabia, the Public Investment Fund, the Mohammed bin Salman “Misk” Foundation, the Roshan Real Estate Group, the Federation of Saudi Chambers and the Saudi-British Business Council all participated in the event.
