A year which, despite the international difficulties that have driven up prices and reduced access to the Russian market, nonetheless demonstrates very positive numbers for Sienese exports.
There are three main fields, food, pharmaceuticals and campers that drive the Province of Siena For the beverage sector explains the Secretary General of the Chamber of Commerce in which wine certainly represents the dominant voice, the year just ended closed with an export total of approximately 462 million euros, up by 9.6% compared to 2021 and by 40.6% compared to 2020.
The United States is confirmed as the first outlet market (162 million euros, +20.3%), followed by Germany (53 million euros, +7.2%), Canada (34 million euros, +7.9 %) and the United Kingdom (21 million euros), the only market in decline (-1.4). Our wine productions are undermining the second place, until now held by campers in the ranking of provincial export sectors and, once again, have made a decisive contribution to the new sales record of Italian wines established in 2022 with over 8 billion of Euro.
“With the dissemination of data relating to the fourth quarter of last year which show, for the Province of Siena, a value of flows abroad equal to 1 billion and 272 million euros with a growth compared to the same quarter of 2021 of +68 .7% – comments Massimo Guasconi, President of the Arezzo-Siena Chamber of Commerce and of Unioncamere Toscana – it is possible to have the definitive picture of Sienese exports for the whole of 2022. The balance is positive above all if we consider what happened in economic level and in the international geopolitical context during the year: the final tail of the pandemic, the tragedy of the war in Ukraine with the consequent sanctions and international embargoes, the energy crisis and the rise in the prices of some raw materials”.
