Spanish police have announced that they have arrested two men and a woman accused of robbing at least 22 luxury homes in Ibiza over a five-year period. The thefts, according to the Iberian press, had been going on since 2019 and the criminals had a well-established modus operandi. They went into action at night, with their faces covered and dressed in black, burgling the most exclusive homes on the island. “Many of the victims – explains the Guardia Civil – told the police that they felt dizzy when they woke up”. Residents also complained of ailments such as vomiting and dizziness. “It is therefore believed – the police specify – that the alleged perpetrators used some type of gas that causes drowsiness”.
The turning point in the investigation came when the police managed to track down some vehicles that had been stolen, presumably to carry out the robberies. Luxury watches, jewelry, sunglasses and designer handbags were found in a property that was supposedly used by the thieves.
It has been estimated that 548,500 euros worth of items have been stolen since 2019. The Guardia Civil has also released a video documenting the gang at work. The images show the thieves rummaging through an apartment, but perhaps they are making too much noise because a man wakes up and finds himself face to face with one of the thieves. The two have a slight fight, then the robber slips out the door. “If they were caught during the robbery, they would leave quickly,” the police noted.
Just a week ago in Ibiza, the villa was burgled by Nick Grimshaw, a former BBC Radio 1 presenter and well-known face in the United Kingdom. It is assumed that the gang could be the same, but the police have not confirmed this.
