The 22nd European Week of Regions and Cities will take place from 7 to 10 October in Brussels. The largest annual conference on regional policy in Europe in 2024 has the theme “More local decision-making participation”.
Until the end of September, citizens can register here to participate in almost 200 free events. Representatives from politics and science, local and regional governments, EU institutions, non-governmental organisations and the private sector will exchange knowledge, experiences and ideas for the development of European regional policy.
The Euregio Tyrol-South Tyrol-Trentino, through its representation office in Brussels, is organising two in-person events: “Brain Gain – Making Regions More Resilient!” (Participation code: 09PW241166) explores how regions can become more resilient through talent migration. “Sustainable Transportation in the EU” (Code: 08PW241788) focuses on sustainable mobility. The languages of the events will be English, and partially French and Italian, with translation services available. A unique aspect: the participants will be able to actively discuss with the speakers. Therefore, the presidents of the regions explicitly invite the citizens of the Euregio to participate.
As the president of the Euregio and the Autonomous Province of Bolzano, Arno Kompatscher, emphasizes, “this is a valuable opportunity for citizens to make a concrete contribution to European politics and to promote changes for the development of the regions. At the same time, the regions can connect and strengthen each other.”
“The EU has to face major challenges and find answers to cross-border issues. It should not only listen to the voice of the member states, but also to that of the regions. As a Euregio, we want to push forward the cross-border aspect and the concerns of the mountain regions,” says Tyrolean captain Anton Mattle.
“The active participation of the Euregio also strengthens the position of Trentino, Alto Adige and Tyrol, which together have a stronger voice”, added Maurizio Fugatti, President of the Autonomous Province of Trento: “When our representation in Brussels co-organizes events and institutional representatives of the Euregio participate, this unity is perceived”.
