Gfk has released UK sales figures for July. It was a quiet month for video game releases in the UK, with EA Sports College Football 25 debuting at number seven.
Despite the relatively niche popularity of American football in the country, the game has had a strong start, with sales more than double those of Madden NFL 24 in the first two weeks of last year.
The best-selling game of the month was EA Sports FC 24, likely thanks to the European Football Championship, with sales up 46% compared to the same period last year. In sixth place is Final Fantasy XIV: A Realm Reborn, which has seen a surge in sales following the release of its new expansion. Overall, sales of PC and console games are down 2.9% compared to last July, with a total of 2.35 million games sold. The top six is made up entirely of games released before 2024, showing how quiet the last few months have been for major new game releases.
Console sales were down 22% from the previous month and down 30% from the same period last year, according to data from GfK. Despite a 31% drop in sales from the previous month, the PS5 remained in first place, followed by the Nintendo Switch, which saw sales decline by 9%. The Xbox Series X|S fell to third place with a 19% drop in sales.
It’s worth noting that the PS5 has reached four million sales in the UK, making it the fifth best-selling console in the country.

As for accessories, sales were down 17% from the previous month, but only 4% from the same period last year. The best-selling device was the PlayStation Portal, followed by the white DualSense controller.
