The Killers’ song “Mr Brightside” was revealed as the most streamed UK track in Spotify history.
Spotify has compiled a list of the biggest artists and tracks since its launch in October 2008. “Mr Brightside” (released September 29, 2003) has over 1.8 billion streams worldwide as of October 9, 2023. Spotify has not communicated the exact number of streams in the United Kingdom.
In 2021, “Mr Brightside” had already broken records in the United Kingdom by spending 260 consecutive weeks in the Top 100 of the singles sales chart. Since October 10, this figure has increased to 382 weeks, or almost seven years.
“Mr Brightside” is the first single from The Killers’ debut album, Hot Fuss, and only reached number ten, their highest ranking. But over the long term, “Mr. Brightside” has benefited from consistent consumption rates that have contributed to its astonishing streaming numbers.
Other top tracks include Vance Joy’s “Riptide,” in sixth place, and “Do I Wanna Know?” from Arctic Monkeys, in seventh position.
Dua Lipa won the prize for the most streamed female artist. His hits “Don’t Start Now” and “New Rules” also appear in the Top 15 titles by British artists.
Brandon Flowers previously said he didn’t think “Mr Brightside” would become a hit if it was released today, partly due to changes in the music industry.
Elsewhere, The Killers released a new standalone single last August, “Your Side Of Town.”
They recently covered Bruce Springsteen’s “I’m On Fire” on stage while headlining a festival in Asbury Park, New Jersey.
Brandon Flowers and his colleagues highlighted their presence on Bruce Springsteen’s land by surprising fans. They played this cover in the last half of the setlist almost at the same time as the single “A Dustland Fairytale” recorded with the Boss himself.
