Gatwick Airport Ground Attendant Strike Disrupts UK Travel

Date:

For the strikes as for the weather in this summer of 2023, it is a question of passing between the drops. Some 45,000 travelers passing through Gatwick will have their flights affected by this situation.

Calls for strike action over wages a few weeks ago were called off after upward negotiations were accepted by the Unite union. But today, a new strike is starting for 230 airport employees and ground agents, causing disruptions and cancellations.

The situation remains uncertain, since no one knows if the strike will last 4 days, until August 21, or 8, to end on the 28th, a public holiday, with heavy traffic in transport.

The unions, which had accepted certain conditions, find themselves at the negotiating table and the passengers, waiting. Added to this is a new call for a strike by railway staff, who have not received a salary increase since 2019. Similar strike movements are taking place all over Europe.
