Stellantis Names New Fiat CEO in Major European Leadership Reshuffle

Date:

Stellantis has appointed automotive industry veteran Arnaud Belloni as chief executive of FIAT, Abarth and Lancia, while also making a series of senior leadership changes across its Enlarged Europe organisation. The appointments, effective from 1 September 2026, form part of the group’s wider effort to accelerate its Fastlane 2030 strategy, strengthen brand positioning and sharpen its approach to the European market. Belloni, who previously spent 16 years at Stellantis and later held senior marketing roles at Renault Group, will also become Chief Marketing Officer for Europe.

Why has Stellantis appointed a new Fiat CEO?

The appointment brings Arnaud Belloni back to Stellantis at a strategically important point for FIAT and the wider European business. Belloni succeeds Olivier François as CEO of FIAT, Abarth and Lancia and takes responsibility for European marketing.

Belloni previously held several senior positions within Stellantis and its predecessor businesses, including FIAT and Lancia marketing roles, managing director of Lancia France and vice-president of marketing for Asia Pacific. He also served as Citroën’s global chief marketing officer from 2015 to 2020.

After leaving Stellantis, Belloni joined Renault Group. He became its global chief marketing officer in November 2020 before taking on the role of chief branding officer for the group’s brands in May 2023.

His return therefore gives Stellantis an executive with experience across both sides of the industry’s highly competitive European market.

What will Arnaud Belloni be responsible for?

Belloni’s remit extends beyond FIAT. He will lead FIAT, Abarth and Lancia while serving as Chief Marketing Officer for Europe, reporting to Emanuele Cappellano, Stellantis’ Chief Operating Officer for Enlarged Europe.

The combined responsibilities reflect Stellantis’ intention to create a more coordinated European marketing approach while maintaining distinct identities for its individual marques.

For FIAT, the move is particularly significant because the brand has been designated one of Stellantis’ four Global Brands under the Fastlane 2030 strategy. The company says FIAT is expected to use Stellantis’ global platforms, technologies and industrial capabilities to expand its international reach.

FIAT’s recent European performance provides additional context. The company reported a 21.7% year-on-year increase in registrations across EU29 during the first half of 2026, taking its market share to 3.3%, an increase of 0.4 percentage points.

Who else is affected by the European leadership reshuffle?

Stellantis has made several other changes alongside Belloni’s appointment.

Xavier Chardon has been appointed CEO of DS Automobiles in addition to his existing role as CEO of Citroën. Xavier Peugeot, meanwhile, becomes head of the Jeep brand in Europe, a newly established position reporting directly to the Enlarged Europe COO.

The Jeep role is intended to give the brand dedicated leadership covering product, marketing and sales as Stellantis seeks to strengthen its position with European customers.

Roberta Zerbi will focus on Customer Journey Excellence and Network Development. Within commercial operations, Gaetano Thorel will take responsibility for Lancia in Enlarged Europe alongside his existing FIAT and Abarth duties, with a functional reporting line to Belloni.

Laurent Diot will similarly add responsibility for DS Automobiles in Enlarged Europe to his existing Citroën role. Fabio Catone will continue overseeing Jeep, Ram and Dodge in the region, with a functional reporting line to Peugeot.

What happens to Olivier François?

Olivier François will remain involved during the transition. Stellantis said he will work alongside Belloni until mid-October before continuing with the company as a strategic adviser.

François has spent more than 30 years working across Stellantis and its predecessor companies. His previous leadership responsibilities included CEO roles at Chrysler, FIAT, Abarth, DS Automobiles and Lancia, as well as the position of global chief marketing officer.

His move into an advisory role means Stellantis will retain access to his experience in brand development, product strategy, sales and marketing while transferring day-to-day leadership to Belloni.

How does the reshuffle fit into Stellantis’ Fastlane 2030 strategy?

The management changes are explicitly linked to Stellantis’ Fastlane 2030 strategic plan, announced earlier in 2026. The company says the new structure is designed to accelerate implementation of that strategy across Europe.

For FIAT, the plan envisages wider market coverage and a broader product portfolio. Stellantis has identified new models, including the Grande Panda and upcoming Grizzly and Grizzly Fastback, as part of its expansion in important vehicle segments.

The strategy also seeks clearer positioning among the group’s numerous brands. Stellantis said the latest appointments are intended to reinforce Lancia and DS Automobiles as specialist brands while allowing them to integrate more closely with FIAT and Citroën respectively.

Why does the reshuffle matter for the European car market?

Europe remains a critical operating region for Stellantis, making the leadership changes more than a routine corporate exercise. The group operates a large portfolio of brands across different market segments, from mass-market vehicles to premium and performance marques.

At the same time, European carmakers face changing consumer demand, intense competition from Chinese manufacturers, the continuing transition towards electrification and pressure to maintain competitive pricing.

The leadership structure announced by Stellantis places greater emphasis on dedicated brand responsibilities while attempting to preserve the efficiencies of operating within a large multinational group.

The timing is also notable because Stellantis has recently reported stronger financial performance in some regions while European revenues remained comparatively subdued. In its second-quarter 2026 results, the company reported net revenues of €43.5 billion, up 13% from the same quarter a year earlier, although Enlarged Europe was flat.

That backdrop increases the importance of improving brand performance and product execution in Europe.

What could happen next at FIAT and Stellantis?

Belloni’s immediate priority will be managing the leadership transition while helping Stellantis execute its European marketing strategy. His dual responsibility for FIAT, Abarth and Lancia gives him an unusually broad influence over three brands with different market positions.

The transition with François is scheduled to continue until mid-October, providing time for the incoming executive to assume responsibility without an abrupt handover.

For Stellantis, the more important test will be whether the organisational changes translate into stronger sales, clearer brand positioning and successful launches under Fastlane 2030.

The reshuffle therefore marks the beginning rather than the conclusion of a broader transformation. Investors, dealers and customers will be watching how Belloni shapes FIAT’s next phase, how Jeep responds to dedicated European leadership and whether the revised structure helps Stellantis deliver stronger growth across the region.
