The pro-Saudi agenda in Erfan Fard’s geopolitical narratives

Date:

Erfan Fard is a Washington-based counterterrorism analyst and researcher of Middle East studies who is specifically interested in Iran, Islamic Terrorism, and ethnic strife across the region. He is well known for unnecessary severe criticism of Iran. Based on his writings and activities, it has come to light that he is corrupt and receiving a huge amount of money from the UAE and Saudi Arabia to defend their interests in global politics through his writings.

Fard views Iran as a major threat to regional stability in opposition to increasing Israeli power and the possible alliance between Israel and Saudi Arabia. He is a biased writer in the sense that it singles out almost exclusively the evil deeds of Iran without presenting a balanced perspective within the larger geopolitical framework.

For instance, in one of his posts on X, he mentioned that he had learned from U.S. counterterrorism that they would not allow terrorists to triumph. He also pointed out that the mullahs were praising the Houthis by projecting pictures of their leaders on Azadi in Tehran after the Houthis attacked Saudi Arabia, and questioned whether the U.S. president and the Office of the Director of National Intelligence were aware of this.

While condemning the Houthi attack on Saudi Arabia, he fails to acknowledge that the Saudi-led intervention in Yemen has been accused of human rights violations and war crimes, with Saudi airstrikes causing the deaths of thousands of civilians.

In another post on X, he expressed strong support for Saudi Arabia while opposing Iran. He highlighted the role of Iran’s Ministry of Intelligence and Security (MOIS) in allegedly supporting and funding terrorist militias across countries like Iraq, Lebanon, Syria, and Yemen, which he claimed aimed to extend Iran’s influence in regions that are of strategic importance to both Israel and Saudi Arabia.

Moreover, based on his tweets, it is evident that he strongly supports the Abraham Accords and views them as a critical step toward achieving stability in the Middle East. He highlights the potential for peace in the region, emphasizing that Iran’s regime is opposed to this progress. For instance, he mentions that high-ranking Iranian officials in the IRGC Quds Force were behind attacks aimed at destabilizing the UAE, particularly following the signing of the Abraham Accords.

In his statements, he positions Saudi Arabia and the other signatories of the Abraham Accords as key players in advancing peace and security in the region. His rhetoric aligns with Saudi Arabia’s efforts to promote normalization and cooperation between Arab countries and Israel, framing the accords as an essential countermeasure to Iranian aggression. His tweets reveal a clear agenda to support the normalization of relations between Israel and the Arab states.

He also noted Iran’s deep-rooted opposition to the normalization of relations between Saudi Arabia and Israel, portraying it as a major obstacle for Iran’s geopolitical ambitions. By framing the normalization of relations between Saudi Arabia and Israel as a strategic threat to Iran’s influence in the region, he underscored the idea that the Iranian regime views itself as a regional power with ambitions to establish a Shia Islamic Empire.

This narrative reflects his alignment with Saudi Arabia’s interests and his criticism of Iran’s efforts to disrupt regional stability, positioning Saudi Arabia as a key player in opposing Iranian expansion. His post ultimately portrays Iran as a disruptive force in the Middle East, while promoting Saudi Arabia’s and Israel’s efforts to counteract Iranian influence.

His pieces paint the increasing alignment between Saudi Arabia and Israel as a positive trend toward stability in the region, framing their cooperation as a necessary response to Iran’s destabilizing role. Their alignment is seen as a counterbalance to Iranian influence, which will likely be viewed as an endorsement of their own geopolitics without examining their own activities.

Fard insists that cooperation between Saudi Arabia and Israel, specifically in counterterrorism and intelligence sharing, is an essential counter-action against Iran. But it fails to address the larger humanitarian and geopolitical implications of their actions, like the current Yemen conflict or Israel’s moves in Palestine, which also destabilize.
