Price parity between electric and endothermic? There are several studies that indicate some dates but it is a much discussed topic. Apparently, however, there are those who have already succeeded in Europe in proposing an electric model at the same price as the endothermic (hybrid) one.
It happens in the United Kingdom where Opel or rather Vauxhall has decided to propose the new electric Frontera at the same price as the Hybrid version.
Specifically, at 23,495 pounds, which is approximately 27,900 euros, the car manufacturer offers the Frontera BEV and the 100 HP Hybrid version (1.2-liter 3-cylinder engine combined with the e-DCT6 transmission).
The Stellantis Group brand points out that fully electric vehicles are generally about 31% more expensive than their ICE counterparts. A difference that in this case has been “eliminated” to offer an equivalent cost. The equivalence of the price between the two versions is not only in the basic trim (Design) but also in the more complete GS version. The version with the 136 HP Hybrid engine costs more.
We recall that the new Frontera is based on the Smart Car platform and has, in the electric version, an 84 kW (113 HP) unit powered by a battery with a capacity of 44 kWh for a range of 306 km according to the WLTP cycle. Next year, a Long Range version with greater autonomy will debut.
Vauxhall has decided to adopt an aggressive strategy on the pricing front to stimulate the sale of electric models by offering customers the possibility of choosing the Hybrid and 100% electric models at the same price.
Will Opel decide to adopt this commercial strategy in other European countries? At the moment we do not know. What is certain is that in Italy the price between the electric and Hybrid models is very different. In fact, the Opel Frontera starts in Italy at 24,500 euros for the 100 HP Hybrid version and at 29,900 euros for the electric one.
