The funds represent the most important part of the 2023 allocation of the European Solidarity Fund, for their transmission the vote of the Parliament and the EU Council is now needed
The European Commission has proposed to disburse 378.8 million euros from the Solidarity Fund to the lands hit by the 2023 flood in Romagna
This is the largest allocation out of a total of over 1 billion euros of overall aid divided between Italy, Slovenia, Austria, Greece and France.
“This is excellent news, which confirms the commitments made by Europe in the weeks following that tragedy. Furthermore, the figure confirms the precision of the estimate of the damage that in a few weeks and in full emergency the communities and local authorities had managed to make with maximum transparency and seriousness. For this reason, on behalf of the Emilia-Romagna community, I would like to thank President Ursula Von der Leyen for having followed up in a concrete way on the closeness shown in the two visits she made to the territories hit by the flood, as well as to the Commissioner for the Economy Paolo Gentiloni – underlines the acting president with responsibility for Civil Protection, Irene Priolo -. Important resources that will be able to support the special plans, for strategic works to secure the territory starting from the flood basins, we are working on this with the extraordinary commissioner for Reconstruction Figliuolo”.
“Instead, we are still waiting for a response from the Government – continues Priolo -, both on the side of the missed reimbursements to families, and on the tax credit: in both cases the promises, which are also insufficient to keep the commitment to cover 100% of the damage, have remained simple announcements without concrete actions to date”.
The European Solidarity Fund is an instrument dedicated to supporting territories hit by major disasters and intended to cover part of the costs of emergency and recovery operations. The disbursement of the funds will be transmitted in a single instalment, once the Commission’s proposal is approved by the Parliament and the Council.
