The Belgian branch of the British cosmetics chain The Body Shop was declared bankrupt by a Dutch court on Tuesday, the trustee confirmed on Wednesday, after the Dutch channel RTL Z announced the information.
The Body Shop had already filed for bankruptcy in the UK. A consultancy firm has been appointed to manage the bankruptcy and restructuring of the British activities, with a view to a restart.
On Tuesday, The Body Shop Belgium therefore also declared bankruptcy. However, the Belgian online store was already closed. According to RTL Z, The Body Shop Belgium has just under 20 branches. Most of these are closed pending news, De Standaard reported last week.
The bankruptcy of the Belgian stores must be settled by a Dutch receiver because they legally fall under the Dutch business unit The Body Shop Benelux, RTL Z explained.
