Focus Entertainment announced a 43% drop in its turnover, amounting to 43.3 million euros for the third quarter, as anticipated and announced by the video game publisher during the publication of the half-year results. This quarter’s activity includes for the first time the activity of the newly formed audiovisual production platform Scripteam. The last quarter of the 2023/24 financial year will be marked by the release of Banishers: Ghosts of New Eden on February 13, 2024, on PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X|S and PC.
On January 2, Geoffroy Sardin, with his 25 years of experience within Ubisoft Entertainment, took on the role of Deputy Managing Director for all of the group’s activities at the request of Fabrice Larue, Chairman and CEO.
A new organization in three divisions
As a follow-up to this appointment, the board of directors announced the establishment of a new organization around 3 complementary activities with, firstly, a division dedicated to the group’s historical activity, the Publishing activity, which will be hosted from April 1, 2024 in a dedicated entity, a project for which the board of directors has given agreement in principle, and which will then become Focus Entertainment Publishing, led by John Bert, Deputy Managing Director.
This new organization also provides for a division dedicated to the Publishing of independent, licensing and retrogaming games bringing together Dotemu, The Arcade Crew and which will be managed by Cyrille Imbert, CEO of Dotemu and Deputy Managing Director.
Finally, the “Studios” division will bring together the seven creative studios (Deck13, Streumon, Douze dixes, Leikir Studio, Blackmill, Dovetail, Carpool Studio).
These changes are intended to “enable an acceleration of organic growth, profitability and cash flow generation of the group’s three core businesses”.
The launch by Amazon of its “cloud gaming” offer in France highlights the diversity of approaches in this market segment.
If this niche currently represents only 1% to 4% of the total video games market, its activity should be multiplied by 3 or 4 in the three years to come. Banking on this sector, Amazon has deployed its associated service in France, after targeting the United States, Canada, Germany and the United Kingdom. In order to make its Prime offer, at the heart of its economic model, more attractive, Amazon will make this service, called “Luna”, accessible to subscribers. However, the lack of depth of the catalog could penalize the development of this offer. This was the case for Google, which withdrew from this niche last year, after three years of operation.
