Focus Secures U.S. Rights for Berger’s Papal Thriller ‘Conclave

Date:

Based on the novel by Robert Harris, the film deals with a conspiracy uncovered during the selection of a new pope and stars Ralph Fiennes, Stanley Tucci and John Lithgow.

“Conclave”, the latest film from Oscar-winning director Edward Berger, has been chosen by Focus Features for distribution in the United States, Jolie Bobine has learned. The sequel to Netflix’s ‘All Quiet on the Western Front’ remake stars Ralph Fiennes, Stanley Tucci, John Lithgow, Carlos Diehz, Lucian Msamati, Brían F. O’Byrne, Merab Ninidze, Sergio Castellitto and Isabella Rossellini.

Based on the novel by Robert Harris, the film written by Peter Straughan centers on a secret papal conclave that elects a new pope – and a conspiracy between rival factions and selfish political ambitions. Spoiler: The previous pope hid a secret or two.

“Twenty-seven years ago, I got my first job as an intern at the company that became Focus,” Mr. Berger said. “Ever since I left the business and embarked on the long path of filmmaking, I’ve always wanted to get back into it. Working today with Peter Kujawski and his incredibly dedicated team makes me feel like I have arrived at a home that I have always missed. I am grateful and look forward to sharing the film with audiences in the United States and around the world through Focus and all of our distribution partners. »

“Edward Berger is a devilishly talented filmmaker who has tugged at our collective hearts by showing us what happens to our better angels in these evil halls of power,” said Peter Kujawski, president of Focus Features. “We can’t wait to take audiences to the edge of their seats with him and our friends at House Productions, Indian Paintbrush and FilmNation.”

“Conclave” will be produced by Tessa Ross and Juliette Howell for House Productions, Michael A. Jackson for FilmNation, Robert Harris and Alice Dawson. Developed with the support of Access Entertainment, Steven Rales will serve as executive producer. FilmNation and Indian Paintbrush co-financed the thriller.

Executive producers are Glen Basner, Alison Cohen, Milan Popelka, Ben Browning, Len Blavatnik, Danny Cohen, Zoe Edwards, Harry Dixon, Paul Randle, Tomas Alfredson, Berger, Fiennes, Straughan, Robyn Slovo, Mario Gianani and Lorenzo Gangarossa.
