Ryder Cup, sold out in the capital’s hotels. The week of the first Italian Ryder Cup opens: the highly anticipated golf challenge between Europe and the United States will be played from Friday 29 September to Sunday 1 October on the Marco Simone green in Guidonia Montecelio, east of Rome.

Today the last members of the two teams of 12 members each also arrived in the capital: Team Europe, led by the British Luke Donald, and Team USA led by Zach Johnson. At 3.30 pm the press conference of the two captains at the Media Center of Marco Simone, a club which with its 27 holes is spread over an area of 150 hectares. The first training sessions of the two teams are scheduled for tomorrow, and on Wednesday evening there will be a gala dinner at the Baths of Caracalla. The Ryder Cup, inaugurated in 1927 and now in its 44th edition, is the most important golf competition in the world. The event will attract 300 thousand spectators, of which 250 thousand from abroad from 85 countries, with a full house in the capital’s hotels. There will be many sporting and social collateral events, such as the All star match on Wednesday with athletes such as Novak Djokovic, Carlos Sainz, Andriy Shevchenko, Gareth Bale and Leonardo Fioravanti who will compete on seven holes.

Controls strengthened

As part of the territorial control services, intensified by the Carabinieri of the Provincial Command of Rome, also in view of the imminent start of the Ryder Cup which will bring many spectators to the Capital, in the last few hours 7 people have been arrested and 4 reported. In four separate operations, the Carabinieri engaged in anti-pickpocketing services along the subway lines and in the most popular places, arrested 6 people, including 5 Romanian citizens and one of Bosnian origins, caught stealing wallets from tourists.
